THEY SHOOT IN HEADS : Kyal Sin / Angel
This piece commemorates Kyal Sin, also known as Angel, a 19-year-old from Mandalay who became a martyr and symbol of resistance during Myanmar’s 2021 anti-coup protests. Kyal Sin was killed on 3 March 2021 by a gunshot to the head as she courageously stood alongside fellow protesters demanding freedom and democracy. Her death marked a tragic milestone in the military regime’s escalating brutality, as young people like her gave their lives to confront oppression.
Designed in the style of a shooting target poster, this artwork reflects the harsh reality faced by Myanmar’s protesters—peaceful citizens forced to endure the constant threat of violence from the regime. The bullet holes and stark imagery convey the fear and unwavering bravery of those who risked everything to stand against tyranny.
This piece honors Kyal Sin’s sacrifice and the countless others who have faced violence in their fight for justice, turning her story into a lasting symbol of hope, resilience, and the enduring spirit of Myanmar’s youth.
