A cuppa Tea & Empathy

An Interactive Art + Conversation Event
We gathered for an afternoon of creativity, connection, and collective action. Together, we built a Wall of Solidarity using paste, posters, paint, and paper to honour Myanmar’s ongoing struggle for democracy. Inspired by the quiet power of tea rooms from Myanmar’s revolutionary teahouses to the suffragettes’ tea parties we came together to reflect, share stories, and show support. No experience was needed; people simply came, had a brew, and made their mark.
Why Tea?
From the suffragette tea rooms of Britain to the activist teahouses of Myanmar, tea has quietly fuelled resistance. These everyday spaces became safe havens for bold ideas — where community, courage, and change began to brew. SolidariTEA honoured this legacy — creating space for conversation, creativity, and collective action in support of Myanmar’s ongoing fight for democracy.
Why now?
Held two months after the devastating earthquake in Myanmar, SolidariTEA was a public creative gathering that invited the Blackpool community to stand in solidarity with those affected not only by the natural disaster, but by ongoing political oppression. This event was part of Shattered, a wider creative response project exploring themes of fragility, resistance, and renewal.
Rather than a traditional exhibition, SolidariTEA became an open, drop-in experience where people came together to create building a communal Wall of Solidarity using paste, posters, paint, and paper.
This was a drop-in, participatory session open to the public, inviting attendees to contribute to a growing Wall of Solidarity a collaborative installation made with posters, messages, protest art, slogans, and personal reflections. Materials were provided, and everyone was welcome to add their voice.
Burmese and British teas will be served throughout the day, creating a relaxed atmosphere that encourages reflection and conversation.
