This year’s Refugee Week theme is Courage, and we can think of no better way to mark it than with this event. Join us for an evening of solidarity, creativity and film. We begin with Fylde Coast Amnesty sharing their current casework in Palestine, move into a hands-on campaign and poster design activity, and close with a screening of Rendered in Light, an intimate documentary portrait of resilience, technology and hope in Gaza.

About the film
When Mosab, a skilled software engineer, is separated from his wife and children as they evacuate Gaza for emergency medical care, he is left behind with only uncertainty and a laptop. Alone in a city under siege, he begins building something extraordinary: a virtual reality program designed to help survivors of genocide cope with mental trauma. As genocide rages around him, Mosab immerses himself in creating digital worlds of calm and reflection. The film follows his journey as he balances the emotional weight of his own loneliness with a relentless drive to serve others. Through acts of kindness and innovation, he finds a way to preserve his own mental health, turning grief into action, and despair into purpose. His work and the benefit it brings his community eventually makes him a target for Israel. This film is an intimate portrait of resilience, exploring how one man’s compassion and creativity become tools for survival. It is a story about holding on to family through distance, building connection through technology, and refusing to let go of hope even when the world gives every reason to.

Healing Children through Virtual Reality
The Gaza Virtual Reality (VR) Tent Project is a project Mosab Ali, in partnership with Sameer Project, is launching on the grounds of Refaat Alareer Camp in Zawayde through crowdfunding. This innovative initiative, conceived by electrical engineer, entrepreneur, and founder Mosab Emad Ali, aims to provide a nurturing and engaging environment for children traumatized by the ongoing war, as well as a stress-relief outlet for medical staff at Al-Aqsa Hospital. Mosab, inspired by trying to help his own child deal with his injuries and subsequent evacuation, understands the profound need for such a space firsthand.
